Patio Design & Installation

Over the past few years, many patterns, colors, and textures of brick pavers have been developed. This has left patio designers and installers many options for making patios, walkways and driveways come alive and the ability to completely transform your patio area.

Patterns – Using specific patterns allow us to define specific areas on your patio for a kitchen area, fire pit or sitting areas. Enhancing a specific area or designing a focal point is possible too, and this can enhance the interest of your guests and visitors.

Colors- The use of different colors can help to visually expand a specific area, give the perception of depth, and provide a general feeling of warmth or coolness. Our designers work with our clients individually to determine the best color scheme for their patio.

Texture – Our experts help to determine what areas would benefit from a smooth texture and which areas on your patio are perfect for a rough-textured paver.

Dimension – When we design patios, we take your whole yard and landscaping into consideration. Sometimes, when we see a particularly flat back yard, we design a raised paver patio which helps to bring a dimension that is missing.

Retaining Walls – Depending on the needs and the layout of your patio area, retaining walls can be useful in creating a bench area or divider on the patio.

Hardscaping: Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers are a great way to provide an affordable hardscape to your landscaping design. Options using pavers range from patios, paths, outdoor kitchens and more!

Concrete pavers are like large tiles; they can be made to look like different materials such as brick or stone. There are so many different design options that your project is sure to stand out among any other. Pavers can be used for driveways, where we use more of an interlocking paver, or for walkways.

Benefits of Pavers:

One of the benefits of concrete pavers vs. poured concrete is that by using small squares or tiles, we can reduce the risk of cracking. Any shifting soil, tree roots or freeze thaw cycle can put cracks in large slabs of concrete. When any of these issues arise and you’ve used the pavers, the most that usually happens is shifting!

Another benefit is to help eliminate runoff. Using pavers, you create a space in between that allows water to run off in different directions. When rainwater runs off of a slab of concrete, you are prone to puddling around the perimeter of the slab.

Lastly, but most importantly, is the visual benefit of a concrete paver. As we’ve stated, using these types of tiles can help you to get more of a variety from your design. From the look of the paver, to the design of the layout, pavers can help you have a completely customized walkway, patio, or outdoor space! Many different materials can be used to fill in between pavers as well, such as stone, dirt or sod.

Options are the key with any landscaping design, concrete pavers help to give many options to any homeowner. To see some of the work we’ve done with concrete pavers, visit our page on Hardscapes and Patios.

2015 Landscaping Trends

Here are some of the hottest trends for 2015 Hardscapes:

Dual Purpose Pieces:

What’s better than one item that can be used two ways? One of the hottest trends for 2015 will be the dual purpose piece. Converting fire pit to fish pond is a great way to use one item all year long! Outdoor furniture which appears like nothing but a comfortable seat for your relaxing purposes, can serve as a convenient hidden storage unit as well!

Outdoor Living Spaces:

Many are starting to create a backyard getaway to be enjoyed by family and guests alike. Outdoor living spaces range from a small, casual entertaining space to a full on private resort. The possibilities are endless, pool table, built in grilling area, refrigerators, TV’s and full bars are merely the top of the iceberg. Many include a small outdoor shower, ideal for rinsing off after a dive in the pool.

Outdoor Kitchens:

Why should you prepare the meal indoors when you can entertain and cook at the same time in your very own outdoor kitchen? A full outdoor kitchen, including grill, expansive cooking areas, refrigerators, wine cooler, built in bar and seating area allows for entertaining outdoors in the best way. Have a particularly large area? Think about adding an outdoor brick pizza oven.

Natural Stone:

Stone is another one of the hottest trends for 2015. The natural look of stone can enhance the look of your backyard tenfold. Picture your outdoor kitchen with a beautiful granite finish, or a stacked stone inlaid fireplace for gathering around at night. From patio surfaces to sidewalks, brick is a quick way to enhance the esthetic appeal of your back yard.

The options for your patio and Hardscapes are endless! Need some inspiration to get started? Take a look at some of the work DeCarlo Landscaping Design has performed here.
